Guess I need to learn the rules… 1/20/2005
I am glad to finally learn about the first rule of Ukraine. It makes me wonder what the second and third rules might be.

Actually, I should have learned that rule already. I commented about it in my most recent Droogmail.
On the day after Round 2 and on the train back to Kyiv, both Lesya and I were in very low spirits. We’d heard about the fraud, and how Yanukovych had won, but not about the protests.
I just thought Ukrainians were going to accept the situation. I tried to think what good might be accomplished even under a Yanukovych presidency. I was failing. It had taken me all my years of Peace Corps plus a year of work before I sank down to that level of cynicism, but even my optimism went bust.
There have been very few times in my life I’ve been so happy I was wrong.

This is something they need to tell you when you get the “So you want to adopt a baby from the Ukraine” packet. On a bright yellow sheet of paper. Maybe we should be guessing how old LT will be when you get him rather than when you get him! What patience you guys have!
