Sassy comebacks 1/27/2005

Filed under: Adoption Week by Week, I'm going to be a parent?!? — jodi @ 2:44 pm

This guy is a hoot. I hope I can be even as tenth as witty when I have to deal with stupid comments people will undoubtedly make about choosing to adopt.

A sampling:

    Q. “Where’s their real father?” A. “My God! Have I gone invisible again? Sorry, I try not to let that happen in public.”

Adoption Process - Week 24 1/22/2005

Filed under: Adoption Week by Week — jodi @ 10:42 am

Word from Kiev this week was the same - they aren’t accepting any dossiers except for families looking to adopt children age 10+. Our facilitation team and our agency director think this is a stalling technique as they prepare for the change in Presidents. Yushchenko is scheduled for inauguration tomorrow, Sunday, January 23, 2005. WooHoo! You are all invited to wear orange with us in celebration. :-)

Next week they will probably also not accept our dossier, so we’re praying for favor in February. Of all the delays we expected, this certainly wasn’t one of them. We appreciate your prayers during this waiting. Please pray specifically that they don’t shut down the Adoption Center completely like they did in 2004 when there was a change in directorship there. Ultimately, though, we are trusting in God’s timing and are hopeful to bring home L.T. sometime in 2005.

Guess I need to learn the rules… 1/20/2005

Filed under: Adoption Week by Week, Ukraine — jodi @ 4:23 pm

I am glad to finally learn about the first rule of Ukraine. It makes me wonder what the second and third rules might be.

Thanks to Orange Ukraine for setting me straight. Keep it coming.

Last Chance to Guess

Filed under: Adoption Week by Week — jodi @ 3:09 pm

Today and tomorrow are your last opportunities to guess our adoption date. Click here to review your guesses and make any changes. Saturday morning we’ll go in and lock it down so it can’t be modified. There are still quite a few dates unaccounted for. Each of you can guess separate from your spouse, so take advantage and fill in those dates!!

Adoption Process - Week 23+ 1/17/2005

Filed under: Adoption Week by Week — jodi @ 5:11 pm

This update is a few days late, but there just wasn’t anything to say last week that hadn’t already been said here.

We are praying that this week will bring better news.

We did have a nice talk with our agency director today about the situation and she was very encouraging. No dossiers were being accepted during the holidays and last week’s restrictions were most likely just an opportunity for them to get their “ducks in a row” before moving forward with more families. She is still confident that we will successfully adopt and in a reasonable time-frame even. All in all, it was very reassuring. We’ll just have to keep watching and waiting and trusting.

Thanks to all of you for your support and concern during the waiting.

Update on the contest 1/14/2005

Filed under: Adoption Week by Week — jodi @ 4:47 pm

Hi all! With regards to the Jelly Beans in a Jar Contest, we have decided to extend the deadline one week to January 21, 2005. We are doing this for several reasons:

    1. We know of several people who haven’t guessed yet. We had intended to do a deadline reminder to give them all a chance. This will be the only extension. 2. We wanted to inform everyone, so you’re all on equal ground, that our dossier has not yet been submitted, and we do not know when it will be. It is likely that there could be further delays, and wanted to allow the opportunity for any who wish it to adjust their guesses accordingly. 3. We also wanted to respond to some comments we received regarding the prize money. Some have expressed a desire to contribute to a fund for LT rather than receive a prize. So what we have decided to do is this: we will prime the pump and put $25 towards the prize money. Anyone else who wants to contribute to it can do so using this link. Whatever is in the “pot” at the time we get back goes to the winner who can do whatever he or she wants to with it. You can take it and throw a party, buy yourself something special, or donate it - all or in part - back to LT. There is no pressure or expectation from us either way. We were happy to contribute to this as a fun way to involve family and friends and express our appreciation for your support during this process.

Remember, you have to be on the right date to win, so be sure to use all THREE guesses you’re allotted. Also, realize that the date you are guessing on is the date we finalize the adoption, not the departing travel date or returning home date.

And we may as well play along as well, since we have no more clues than anybody else! :D

Here is the link to the contest calendar. Happy final week of guessing!
